| READY FOR THE HILL
Glenullin Hill Walking Festival took place last Saturday 21 June and a good day out was had by all! Rain held off until all the walkers were safely back in Glenullin Resource Centre, enjoying homemade scones and tea!
The group of enthusiastic walkers had been out for 5 hours following the Drumbane trail in the Glen and were led by Jim Allen and Mark Strong, both experienced walk leaders.
They were accompanied by Kevin McNicholl and John Mclaughlin, trainee Guides on a Heritage Lottery Fund project Getting to Know Your Home. The Guides are learning the natural and cultural history of the Glen to continue the fine tradition of leading people knowledgeably and safely in this beautiful area of the NE Sperrins.
And a smaller group of people came on the Errigal Glen Trail where the trainee Guides, Sue and James McBean, Elaine Mongtgomery and Geraldine Fox got to tell the stories of the Inauguration Stone, let the children stand in the footsteps of Irish Chieftains, look for badger’s sets and run freely and safely on this beautiful Trail along the Agivey and through the forest.
Our thanks to Coleraine Council for funding support, to the landowners who give us access to their paths and fields, to Anna Mullan, Siobhan Atkins and Maura McLaughlin for providing the much looked forward refreshments and support, to St John’s Ambulance for First Aid cover and to James McLaughlin for the organic produce that was part of the free raffle.
